January-March: PFA starts each year fishing the coastal rivers
for winter Steelhead, Coastal Bays for Winter Sturgeon and the Lower
Columbia for Spring Chinook.
Winter
Steelhead
Trips run daily for winter
Steelhead in our 18' Clackacraft Drift boat designed to fish three for
steelhead on Coastal Streams of Northern Oregon. We do have four additional
Winter Steelhead guides to handle groups up to 12 for these great float
trips down scenic coastal streams. During this time we fish for both
Hatchery keeper Steelhead as well as Wild/Native Steelhead that must be
released. We have both traditional and fly casting trips available.
Winter
Sturgeon
When fishing for winter
Sturgeon on the Coastal bays of Tillamook and Nehalem we will board our 24'
North River powered by Yamaha. We fish six people in this covered boat. We have two
additional guides and can handle up to 18 people during the Winter Sturgeon.
While fishing is slower for winter Sturgeon compared to the Keeper Season on
the lower Columbia in the spring, however the size and quality will make any
anglers day.
Spring
Chinook
In late March we start
fishing for the prized Spring Chinook on the lower Columbia River aboard our
24' Covered North River powered by Yamaha. These sought after Salmon fresh
from the ocean are the Northwest's best eating salmon. Spring Salmon fishing
is a challenge but once rewarded the great tasting salmon it is a trip you
will want to repeat annually. We have a additional three guides for these
trips so we can handle 24 guests per day. These trip run 8-10 hours and
start daily based upon tides.
April-June: During the Spring
PFA continues fishing for Winter Steelhead on Coastal Streams,
Spring Chinook on the
Lower Columbia River
as well as Tillamook Bay and Keeper Sturgeon on the Lower Columbia River.
Spring
Salmon
Once April arrives we are
fishing daily on the Lower Columbia River for fresh run Spring Chinook
coming in from the ocean from our covered 24' North River powered by Yamaha
with six clients. We also add another guide during this period so we can
handle 30 guests for Springer's. Once the Columbia is closed by the State of
Oregon we then focus our Spring Chinook fishing on Tillamook Bay until mid
June. The fish on
Tillamook Bay are larger compared to the fish on the lower
Columbia and offers a great
opportunity when tides are right to also drop a few crap pots as well.
Winter
Steelhead
In the first two weeks of
April we still offer one boat for up to three people for catch & release
Winter Steelhead on the Coastal Streams. This is the time of year for large
wild Steelhead and a great float trip without the crowds.
Keeper
Sturgeon
In April we offer Sturgeon
trips on the Lower Columbia River.
We will fish the flats and migration channels for these keeper sturgeon. The
first of May it closes for two weeks and once it reopens in mid May we offer
two trips a day, morning 8-9 hours and evening 4-5 hours. This is a world
class Sturgeon fishery. It continues into early July and is a very busy
season. We continue to fish our 24' North River powered by Yamaha along with
the other guides and boats to accommodate 24 guests. This is a great fishery
for all experience levels and a great place for kids to enjoy a fishing
trip!
July-September:
With July and Early August
PFA offers trips in
Alaska where we chase Kings
and Halibut in Cook Inlet and on the Lower Columbia River we offer Catch and
Release Sturgeon. Mid August to mid September we fish the famed Buoy 10
season for Fall Chinooks and Silvers as well as the Ocean. Then fish off
September by fishing for the large Fall kings on Tillamook and
Nehalem
Bays.
Alaska
Halibut & King Salmon
During July and early
August we team up with a first class fishing lodge along the waters of cook
inlet. Alaska's
Trophy King Lodge www.trophyking.com . During this time frame we chase King
Salmon headed for the famous Kenai river and many other streams as well as
halibut each day. The lodge Chinook record is 84 pounds and fish close to or
even bigger then the world record pass in front of the lodge annually.
Halibut record is 350 pounds with the average fish 60 pounds and a limit of
two per person you have the opportunity to fill your freezer with halibut
for the winter. In addition to the daily trips on Cook Inlet in front of the
lodge we can arrange for a day trip fishing the Kenai River or a fly out for
sockeye and bear viewing. We can accommodate groups up to 20 all with
private cabins/baths, first class food and service. Great trip of a lifetime
for families, business groups and individual anglers.
Catch
& Release Sturgeon
During July we have three
ready to take you Sturgeon Fishing on the lower Columbia River. These trips
are packed with action with 50 fish days of Sturgeon 40" too 10 feet not
uncommon. A perfect trip for kids and family's. All fish must be released
after photo's of coarse.
Buoy 10 Ocean Salmon
In August we offer Salmon
trips on the Lower Columbia River
and in the Ocean for Fall Chinook Salmon and Silver Salmon. We fish from our
24' North River Powered by Yamaha. The salmon action can heat up for this
famous fishery where during a five week period 700,000 plus salmon pass the
Shores of the Lower Columbia. This is a great opportunity for quality Salmon
fishing and we offer two trips daily with guides to accommodate 24 guests
daily.
Coastal Bay Fall Chinooks
In September we begin
fishing Tillamook and Nehalem Bays for the largest of the Oregon Salmon. In
our 24' North River powered by Yamaha we give chase to these large Fall Chinooks that can
tip the scales to 60 pounds. They average 25 but it is not uncommon to see
five over 45 pounds. We have only two additional guides for this time frame
so we can only book groups to 18 for all Tillamook and
Nehalem Bay trips.
October-December: We focus on Fall Chinook and Winter Steelhead
on Coastal Streams and Bays. We fish from both our 24' North River Powered
by Yamaha and our 18' Clackacraft Drift boat.
Tillamook and Nehalem Bays
We fish both bays for large Fall Chinook in October and early November.
These fish come into the Bays on their spawning run and await the fall rains
to bring enough water to allow passage into the coastal streams. They large
fish can reach 60 pounds and it the best opportunity to land the biggest of
the fall Kings in the State of Oregon. We have two other guides during
October so we can handle up to 18 guests for this period on the Bays.
Coastal Rivers Fall Chinooks
Once the rains bring up the coastal streams and the fish move up stream we
switch over to drift fishing the streams in our drift boat and have an
addition three guides ready for Fall King Drift Trips and can handle up to
13 guests daily.
Winter Steelhead
In December we begin switching from Fall Chinooks to Hatchery Winter
Steelhead. These fish follow the Fall Chinook into all coastal Streams and
provide great opportunity to fight, land and keep a winter Steelhead. As
with the Fall Drift Trips we have guides to handle 13 guests per day.
